SEO in 2025: 7 fundamentals to rank on page one of Google
Keywords, technical SEO, content, on-page, mobile, backlinks, and UX: a practical guide to sustainable organic visibility.
The top three organic results capture more than half of all clicks. If you’re not there, competitors capture prospects that could be yours. SEO isn’t magic — here are 7 fundamentals for 2025.
1. Keyword research — Understand what people type into Google. Favour long-tail phrases (3–5 words): often less competitive and highly targeted. Tools: Search Console, Semrush, Ahrefs, Ubersuggest.
2. Technical SEO — Google must crawl your site smoothly: Core Web Vitals, HTTPS, clean URLs, XML sitemap, robots.txt, schema.org for rich results.
3. Quality content — Google rewards content that truly answers questions: informative, structured (H1–H3), updated, and deep enough for pillar pages.
4. On-page SEO — Every page: title tag (55–65 characters, keyword early), compelling meta description, a single H1, descriptive alt text on images, sensible internal linking.
5. Mobile-first — Google primarily uses the mobile version of your site. Non-responsive sites are penalised.
6. Backlinks — Inbound links are votes of trust: guest posts, link-worthy assets, digital PR, quality directories.
7. UX as an SEO signal — Time on site, bounce rate: a strong user experience supports rankings.
